He was perhaps the greatest baritone saxophonist of all time and certainly a super talented composer and arranger of hundreds (or thousands?) of tunes in a long career spanning over 50 years. On "Spring Is Sprung" and "Theme For Jobim", Gerry really shines on piano. Don't get the idea that you'll be overwhelmed with dixieland jazz here - far from it. "Bernie's Tune" certainly has some dixie flavor as does "Blue At The Roots". "Demanton" is quite dixieland-style in fact. But this album is mostly some very choice west coast cool jazz.
